No Power

The power has been intermittent for the last 48 hours, last night there was no power between 5pm and 10pm and then it went off again at 3am. If there is no power there is no Internet and more importantly no air conditioning; hence a very hot and grumpy Mr Power!

I want to share some images from the Ebola cemetery yesterday. In my last post I described the rows upon rows, hundreds upon hundreds of small headstones. The inscriptions were pitiful, it was hard to know if I should take pictures, but I think it is important that you should see them as Ebola effected Waterloo and our school community. The family asked that I share them too.

This place is less than 10 minutes from Hope Prep school. 18 months ago it was just land with vegetation, now, it is a very different place. It was actually quite peaceful and serene now.

One of the most upsetting parts for me was seeing the deep jeep tyre marks at the entrance to the cemetery. It was obvious things had been chaotic here. I thought of what the scenes must have been like as each day hundreds of bodies in different vehicles turned up and the grief and disbelief of the families.  The tin sinks which once contained chlorinated water for hand washing stood empty and dusty.

Tomorrow night I will be returning home, but prior to that I will be spending the day at Hope Prep School. This promises to be a very happy last day in Sierra Leone.

Thank you for following the blog.

No words needed

This went on for as long as the eye could see.

                      Again, no words.
